Newcastle United Kevin Gallagher

My first away game way in May 1992 when we needed to win at Filbert Street to guarantee safety in what was then Division Two. I think if Leicester City won they had a chance of promotion via the play offs so there was a lot at stake. In the end won 2-1 thanks to a Gavin Peacock goal and a very late own goal from Leicester captain Steve Walsh. After that goal there were people on the pitch and there was a lot of trouble with the Leicester fans trying to get in amongst the Newcastle fans. We had to be escorted out of the ground by riot police and it felt like me and my brother were the only two kids in the away end. I do remember my Dad saying when we got back to the safety of the car 'Think I'll wait a few years before taking you two to another away game'.

Newcastle United Foundation have a heritage project for fans of all ages called Toon Times.

Toon Times will culminate with a major Newcastle United exhibition at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle, although in the lead up to this event Toon Times wishes to reach out to all Newcastle United fans across the North East and further afield to get involved and share their memories, experiences, photos and memorabilia what people have collected over the years.

We are supporting the project by helping to collect NUFC memories online - fans can share their memories on the Replay Football website, simply select the Toon Times tag when submitting yours.
